La Célestine

Small 4to, full parchment, title on upper cover, housed in a quarter parchment folder titled full length on spine, and a slipcase (publisher's binding).

First edition.

Featuring 66 full-page original etchings and aquatints by Pablo Picasso, the illustrations vividly bring to life La Célestine, a significant masterpiece of 16th-century Spanish literature. Pierre Heugas skillfully translated the text, enhancing the visual narrative. Picasso's illustrations, created in 1968, are part of the renowned "347" series, developed in collaboration with master printers Piero and Aldo Crommelinck. These illustrations, some subtly imbued with eroticism, add a dynamic dimension to the artistic interpretation of the timeless narrative.

One of 350 out of a total of 400, on Canton du Moulin Richard-de-Bas paper with the watermark "La Célestine", signed by Pablo Picasso. No. 167.

Minimal soiling on p. 36, tiny and rare very light foxing. Tear skilfully restored to the justification.
