Au Bal des Etudiants
Lithograph in colors. Small folds. Beautiful print of Toulouse-Lautrec's Bal des étudiants from a drawing made in December 1900 during a ball in Bordeaux.
The artist has represented in the foreground a generous masked woman accompanied by a man in a top hat who is none other than Paul Viaud, a long-time friend commissioned to watch over him. The clown and the orchestra, which also evoke the party, appear in the second and third planes. The monogram appears at the bottom left of the poster, the title in red letters at the top.
The print was printed with only two color highlights: yellow and red, all in shades. Au Bal des étudiants is the last poster of the artist. He died in his family home in Malromé in the Bordeaux region in September 1901 at the age of 36.
