ADAM, Victor

Son of Jean Adam from whom he received the first principles of drawing, Victor-Jean Adam (1801-1866) is a French painter and lithographer endowed with an extraordinary imagination and solid technical knowledge. He was first noticed for his painting, participating in several Salons where he obtained a certain success and two medals (1824 and 1836). He was one of the first artists to be called upon when the Versailles museum was established, where several of his paintings are on display. Like many painters of his time, he tried his hand at lithography in 1824, taking a liking to it to the point where he stopped painting. His lithographic work includes nearly eight thousand subjects. His numerous lithographs representing in particular scenes of stagecoach, horses... are particularly appreciated.
