Le cacao dans le monde
Oil on wood panel, 80 x 164.5 cm Bibliography: Unpublished. Painted on panel with a warm and shimmering touch, this painting represents a map of the world dedicated to cocoa and its culture. In this composition, the painter has precisely listed the supplier countries as well as the producing areas of this commodity. The artist has also indicated the various factories of the Suchard company. Founded in 1826 in Neuchâtel, this company is one of the most emblematic brands in the chocolate industry. Famous for its famous rochers, Suchard has set up factories in many European countries including Austria, Germany, Spain, Italy, England, France and Switzerland. Like other brands such as Poulain or Milka, it has developed an important iconography linked to its products. In addition to its decorative aspect, this panel contains a wealth of information on the geography of cocoa and its exploitation. The artist has also embellished this map with several figures characteristic of the Western imagination linked to chocolate and distant travel.
