The works of the Italian biologist, philologist, poet and court physician to the dukes of Tuscany Francesco Redi (1626-1697), whose scientific work is absolutely remarkable. Redi studied, among other things, the venom of vipers, insects (he demonstrated by various biological experiments that spontaneous generation is a false belief as was then commonly believed) and parasites. The illustration consists of 32 plates.

Some defects (foxing, corner torn off on pl. 7 of vol. 1 and to the 2nd preliminary leaf of vol. 3, small hole on p. 99 in vol. 3 and p. 31 in vol. 5, some errors in pagination).
