Oblong 4to (235 x 335mm.), second edition, containing the complete series of 80 aquatint etchings, all plates on endpapers, printed title page and text sheet on Goya, quarter canvas from the 19th century. Very slight scattered stains and browning of some of the leaves, worn covers, three tiny holes in the spine. Magnificent series of paintings made under the impression of the guerrilla warfare against Napoleon in Spain. Created by Goya in 1810-20, the first edition was only published in 1863 in 500 copies. In its apocalyptic representation, the sequel is considered to be the artist's most accomplished achievement in the field of engraving. The engravings are in the excellent quality usual for this edition. The second edition presents important differences compared to the next 5 editions, especially the captions. Plate 73 has the scratch mark in the upper margin (Harris compliant). Harris (vol. II, 174)
