Fold marks to the plates. Very slight foxing. Hinge split on 1cm. Copy of Ferdinand I (1793-1875), Emperor of Austria, King of Lombardy-Venetia, crowned in September 1838.

First edition. Magnificent work describing the Arco della Pace in Milan, dedicated to Count Hartig, governor of Lombardy. This large neo-classical arch, originally made of wood, was built by the Italian architect Luigi Cagnola to honor the wedding of Eugene de Beauharnais in 1807. Unfinished, its construction resumed under Francis I of Austria who dedicated the arch to the peace of the great European powers in 1815. The work will be completed in 1838, finished by the architects Francesco Londonio and Francesco Peverelli after the death of Cagnola in 1833.
