These superb floral compositions are the work of naturalist painters; they were made after paintings by Joséphine Coutance and Elisa Champin and represent various plants and flowers marketed by the firm Vilmorin-Andrieux & Cie, Marchands grainiers Quai de la Mégisserie in Paris. Published between 1850 and 1895, the plates of the Vilmorin Album are enhanced with watercolor and gum arabic at the time; they are numbered and dated between 1851 and 1866 (except for plate n°3 of the series of Bulbous Plants which is not dated). Each plant is named in French and English at the bottom of the plate, and 10 are accompanied by a descriptive text sheet. Rare set of educational engravings, valuable from a scientific, historical and artistic point of view.
