with full and authentic details of the recent visit of Her Majesty the Queen of England, and Her Royal Consort, to His Majesty the King of the French, and His August Family [in sept. 1843].

Large folio; brown morocco, multiple frames of gilt fillets on the boards with fleurons at the corners and gilt arms in a central frame, spine with raised bands and title in gilt letters, green silk lining and endpapers [Binding Ch. Magnier & ses fils Rel.].

Two titles, a dedication leaf, (17) ff, 12 large steel engraved figures out of text, 6 drawings. Work entirely mounted on mitre.

PRECIOUS EXAMPLE WITH SIX ORIGINAL DRAWINGS PREPARATORY TO THE ILLUSTRATION, pasted on green cardboard leaves: the full-length portrait of Marie Amélie reine de France, by Eugène Lami, the full-length portrait of Madame Adélaïde, by F. Winterhalter, and four drawings by Percival Skelton representing 1- the presentation cartouche (with comments by the artist), 2 - the coat of arms and view of the castle, 3 - the fire of the castle of Eu, and 4 - the full-length portrait of Guizot.

Very numerous foxing and spotting. Seven plates missing (according to the table bound at the end of the volume). Spine and first board faded, upper spine split, rubbing, upper silk guard detached.

Letter from the author and engraver, Joseph Skelton, to a subscriber (Mrs. Rochefort?), on an engraved leaf in-8º format, informing the subscribers, that he is forced to reduce and finish the work with this 7th issue... He indicates however that many subscribers asked him to continue the collection of royal portraits, and he proposes nine portraits to be realized, in exchange for a financial participation.
