Description

Delamarche's map of North America showing the newly independent United States of America.

This map includes the boundaries that had been defined shortly before its publication as part of the Treaty of Paris of 1783. It occupies an important and well-deserved place in the history of the United States and is characterized by a text box in the lower right corner of the map that details the ten new states proposed in Jefferson's Ordinance of 1784.

The map extends along the Atlantic coast from Labrador to the Bahamas, and west to the Louisiana Territory and the Rio del Norte (Rio Grande). The United States is represented in green, the British territories in red and the Spanish lands in yellow. It is adorned with an attractive illustrated title cartouche.

Cette carte apparaît dans l'édition de 1786 de l'Atlas universel de Robert de Vaugondy.
