Description

Beautiful copy of the map of Poland by Conrad Tobias Lotter in original color.

The map is centered on Poland and extends from Muscovy in the east to Germany in the west and from the Baltic States in the north to Hungary and Moldavia in the south. It features many major cities highlighted in red such as Gdansk, a major port on the Baltic Sea, Cracow (Krakau), Wroclaw (Warsau), Riga, Vienna... It is decorated with two elegant cartouches, one for the title with allegories, the other for the scale, decorated with the coat of arms of Stanislaus II August, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1764 to 1795, and the last monarch of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

LOTTER, Tobias Conrad

Tobias Conrad Lotter (1717-1777) was a pioneer among German cartographers, publishers and engravers of the 18th century. He was based in Augsburg where he engraved numerous maps published by his father-in-law, Matthaus Seutter, the imperial geographer and engraver of Augsburg. Lotter took over Seutter's business in 1756.
